Here the text becomes a practice profile, profiling not just the student’s experience but the practice area itself as a focus for research which can contribute generally and publicly to clinical decision making and action.

I do not think I am saying anything particularly novel here.  What I am suggesting is  merely that student assessment is reconceptualised to include what professionals need to do anyway in order to increase the general ‘intelligence’ of a community of professionals to make the best possible judgements and carry out the highest quality care.

Professional and student at whatever level need continually to interrogate what they do.  In the Panda interim report we made a distinction between ‘doing’ and ‘action’ as follows:
