Brief Biography of John Schostak

He has carried out research, teaching and publication across a range of professions and disciplines focusing on:
In particular, he is interested in qualitative research methods generally and has published books on methodology with the OU Press, 2002 and 2006 and with Routledge 2008 that develops several innovative approaches to doing research in multi-professional and multidisciplinary contexts. He has been involved in around 60 funded research projects most of which have focused on innovation, curriculum processes and workplace learning, In particular he has carried out national evaluations of education and training for the English National Board for Nursing Midwifery and Health Visiting, one of which resulted in funding to produce a multimedia distance learning course developed in conjunction with the Open University. With Andy Ramwell, he recently undertook research in Barclays' Spaces for Sports programme that looked at the potential impacts on local communities of investments in deprived areas. With Jill Schostak he is currently exploring emancipatory research methodologies and developing alternative approaches to writing and research at Imaginative Spaces. Also with Jill he is editing a book, to be published in 2009 by Routledge on research methodologies appropriate to the study of violence in education, culture and the institutions of society generally.
